2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS Electric SUV Quick Peek
The EQS SUV is the first all-electric luxury SUV from Mercedes-EQ. With an optional third row providing room for up to seven people, the EQS SUV is the third model based on the company's new modular architecture for premium and luxury-class electric vehicles.
Thanks to powerful electric motors, responsive 4MATIC all-wheel drive, and an intelligent OFFROAD driving mode, the EQS SUV promises it will be capable of tackling light terrain with ease. Permanently excited electric synchronous motors drive the front and rear axles, offering an output of 355 horsepower and 419 lb-ft of torque for EQS 450+ rear-wheel-drive models and up to 536 horsepower and 633 lb-ft or torque from the EQS 580 4Matic model.
Power is stored in a 12-cell lithium-ion battery module, promising a capacity of 107.8 kWh and sufficient energy for ranges of over 370 miles. Batteries will be produced in the state-of-the-art carbon-neutral Mercedes-Benz battery plant near Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Its batteries can be charged from empty to full in about 11 hours using a three-phase 9.6kW AC home charger, or to 80% power in about 30 minutes at a DC fast-charging station. Mercedes-Benz USA will provide AMG EQS customers complimentary 30-minute DC Fast charging with the Electrify America Network for 24 months from account activation, and two years of free maintenance.
As with all Mercedes vehicles, the EQS SUV promises generous standard equipment along with a high-level of technology and EQ-specific features to meet the demands of even the most discerning customers.
Among its many premium features is the 56-inch curved glass Hyperscreen (optional on RWD models, standard on the 4Matic) that stretches across the entire width of the dashboard. It incorporates a 17.7-inch touchscreen that's primarily responsible for infotainment functions, plus another 12.3-inch touchscreen in front of the passenger. Those who prefer a more traditional approach may appreciate the standard digital gauge cluster and a 12.8-inch portrait-style touchscreen.
Mercedes-Benz promises to offer battery-electric vehicles in all segments in which the brand is represented by the end of this year. The EQS SUV will be the first BEV to be assembled at the Mercedes Tuscaloosa, Alabama, manufacturing facility. While pricing is yet to be announced, estimates predict the EQS 450+ SUV should be priced about $87,000, while the GLS 580 4Matic SUV should start around $101,000. Both are set to go on sale in Fall, 2022.
