Car subscription calculator
The true cost of a lease.
A lease payment isn’t the price of a lease. Set the numbers from your quote, pick one of our cars, and see what each month really costs, including the one number no lease ad prints: what it takes to walk away. Prefer prose? Read the line-by-line comparison.
The calculator
Keep it 12 months and the lease runs 3.9× the subscription, every month.
At 12 months: the lease $2,295 a month all in, the Tesla Model 3 subscription $583 a month.
Common questions
What does this calculator count that a lease ad leaves out?
Everything after the advertised payment: the money due at signing spread over the months you actually keep the car, the disposition fee at turn-in, the monthly upkeep a lease leaves with you, and what walking away early would cost. A 36-month lease you keep for all 36 months is often the cheaper monthly; the picture changes once the hidden lines are counted.
What does it cost to end a lease early?
In most lease contracts, ending early means owing the remaining payments plus an early-termination or disposition fee. Some banks discount the payoff or allow a lease transfer, but the contract’s default answer is the rest of the term. Ending an Autonomy subscription is 14 days of notice after the 31-day minimum, with nothing owed beyond the month you’re in.
Does either number include insurance?
No. Insurance is excluded from both columns so the comparison stays honest. A lease requires full coverage you buy separately; with Autonomy, insurance is available inside the subscription for an additional fee.
Where do the subscription prices come from?
They are Autonomy’s live posted plans for each car: a one-time start fee and a month-to-month payment that includes title, registration, routine maintenance, roadside assistance, and 1,000 miles a month.
Sources & fine print
- Average new-vehicle lease payment: $619/month, Experian State of the Automotive Finance Market, Q1 2026. The slider default rounds to $620. source
- Advertised lease deals in August 2026 mostly required $3,999 to $5,000 due at signing. That figure usually bundles the first payment, the bank’s acquisition fee (typically $595 to $1,095), and title and registration, and the calculator counts the first month’s payment inside it. If your quote lists due-at-signing without the first payment, add one payment to this input. source
- Disposition fee at turn-in: typically $350 to $500, usually waived only if you buy the car. source
- Maintenance, repair, and tires average 11.04 cents per mile (about $110 a month at 1,000 miles), AAA Your Driving Costs, 2025; annual registration renewal commonly adds $125 to $200 depending on state. AAA’s figure includes an extended warranty and a tire set, so it can overstate upkeep for a newer car under factory warranty, which is why the default sits at $120 rather than the sum. source
- Early lease termination mechanics: the Federal Reserve’s Keys to Vehicle Leasing notes early-termination charges “can amount to thousands of dollars”; U.S. Bank’s published worked example totals $10,820.68. This calculator uses the contract’s default remedy, remaining payments plus the disposition fee. source
Lease-side defaults are national figures, not a quote; replace them with your own numbers. Early-exit math assumes the contract’s default remedy, the remaining payments plus the disposition fee; some banks discount payoffs or permit transfers. Excess-mileage and wear-and-tear charges are excluded from the lease column. Subscription pricing is Autonomy’s live posted plan for the selected car, subject to approval and availability; 31-day minimum, 14-day notice, 1,000 miles a month included, $0.25 per additional mile. Insurance is excluded from both columns; a lease requires full coverage purchased separately, and with Autonomy insurance is available inside the subscription for an additional fee. This page compares leasing with subscribing only; Autonomy does not offer leases.
